The Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development and affiliated laboratories has recently been granted Marie Curie Centre of Excellence in Training status by the European Commission. As a result of this, six 3-year fellowships are available for the purposes of completing a PhD in Cognitive or Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at Birkbeck University of London. The PhD studentships are tenable for up to 3 years and must be taken up no later than September 30th 2006.
The CBCD has the mission to investigate relations between postnatal brain development and changes in perceptual, cognitive, and linguistic abilities from birth through childhood and late adulthood. Research is intrinsically multidisciplinary and involves behavioural testing, ERP, fMRI, NIRS, and computational neural network modelling with typically and atypically developing children as well as adult patient populations. Successful applicants will be made Marie Curie Training Fellows of the CBCD. The position will include a generous 3-year stipend, travel and research funds. The fellows will be expected to complete a doctoral thesis within the 3 years of the fellowship. The fellowships are primarily intended for citizens of the EU and carry mobility restrictions. Ordinary residents of the UK are not eligible to apply.

The new building which is progressing nicely See Pics See Webcam, is located just down the road from the current building and will house all of the CBCD and the closely related Brain and Behaviour Lab.
Mark Johnson's reader Brain Development and Cognition has now been published in its second, enlarged and revised edition. It is now co-edited by Yuko Munakata and Rick O. Gilmore.
