    The babylab welcomes new families

Over the last year, the babylab has welcomed around 30 very special families who took part in the Autism Baby Siblings Research Program. This constituted the first phase of this program and in January, we will be recruiting more families to take part in a new phase of the project, where we will see the same babies on a couple of occasions before their first birthday.

    Babies wanted!

If you are pregnant or have a baby between the ages of 0-12 months AND have an older child who has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, please contact us. For contact details please see the bottom of this page.

    Project news

    June 2006

The CBCD held an event inviting renowned experts on autism and infancy from the UK and North America. This event was the first step in an effort to establish a national network for the study of infant siblings of children with ASD in the UK. One of the aims of the network would be to emphasize common collaborative research programmes, bringing together the expertise of various scientists across the UK.

    July 2006

The Babylab proudly took part in the Walk for Autism Research in Windsor Park. We raised close to £2,500 in support of biomedical research into the causes of autism.

    What the parents say

We are delighted with the enthusiastic support for the study so far. Your positive response highlights the importance of this project and its potential long-term benefits for all those affected by ASD. Here are just a few of the comments we received from our participating families:

"A big thanks to all of you again for the great time we had in London. Not only did we have a very enjoyable trip to London in fantastic weather, I was also absolutely fascinated by the professional conduct of your research and the interesting experiment setup."

"Having a child with a diagnosed condition makes me want to do everything possible in understanding and investigating for the future generation."

"Having another autistic child has led me to want to help improve our knowledge of the condition and also the possibility of earlier recognition and improved intervention."

Invitation to Participate in The Study of Infant Siblings of Children Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

    About the study

  • The purpose of the current study is to learn more about the early development of siblings of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • In the long run, this will help to improve early detection and diagnosis of children with ASD.

    What the study involves

During the visit your baby will complete very short computer tasks such as watching faces and colourful animations. Participation is voluntary and the whole visit is accommodated to your child’s needs. You will be present throughout. We will ask you to come to the Babylab in central London on a date that is convenient for you and we will reimburse all your travel costs. Special arrangements will be made for families who live very far from the Babylab.

    Who can participate?

We are looking for families with:
  • A child who has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. AND
  • A younger sibling between the ages of 0-12 months. If you do not have a baby at this age but wish to know about our future projects you may still contact us.
